I listened to his old album "On and on" on my bed recently. Its guitar and bass are wonderful.

The song Traffic in the sky is my favorite in this album. However, I was confused when I tried to interpret the meaning of these lyrics. Its lyrics are the most difficult to be understood in this album.

I went to the offical site of Jack Johnson and searched in the forum. Finally, I got a more full picture about this song according to how and when jack Johnson wrote this song plus his background, his childhood. I got a version which I think is more close to the origin.

What I'm more impressed, even shocked by is that many people are interested to the true meaning of this song, but most of them always got confused about the meaning of this song. There are hundreds possible solutions interpreted by many people on the posts in the forum. It's funny that Jack Johnson's songs, especilly Traffic in the sky, are always left open for your own interpretation.

Traffic in the sky – Jack Johnson (Listen to the demo track)

there's traffic in the sky
and it doesn't seem to be getting much better
theres kids playing games on the pavement
drawing waves on the pavement
shadows of the planes on the pavement
it's enough to make me cry
but that don't seem like it would make it feel better
maybe it's a dream and if i scream
it will burst at the seams
this whole place will fall into pieces
and then they'd say

well how could we have known?
i'll tell them it's not so hard to tell
if you keep adding stones
soon the water will be lost in the well

puzzle pieces in the ground
but no one ever seems to be digging instead they're looking up towards the heavens
with their eyes on the heavens
there are shadows on the way to the heavens
it's enough to make me cry
but that don't seem like it would make it feel better
the answers could be found
we could learn from digging down
but no one ever seems to be digging
instead they'll say (chorus)

words of wisdom all around
but no one ever seems to listen
theyre talking about their plans on the paper
building up from the pavement
there are shadows from the scrapers on the pavement
its enough to make me sigh
but that dont seem like it would make it feel better
the words are all around
but the words are only sounds
and no one ever seems to listen
instead they'll say (chorus)
